Episode 1- Back at it for Season 2

We are back for Season 2 of the TechGirl Financial Podcast.  This season, we will explore the various stages of the client journey with other financial professionals in real estate, mortgage lending, accounting, estate planning and others.  It promises to be an educational ride that will keep you informed with insights from our collaborate team of experts.


Episode 2- The Mortgage Lending Process

In the first episode of our Financial Professional Education Series, Janene Chernoff, Branch Manager and Loan Officer at Guild Mortgage joins us to share insights on the mortgage lending process.  Our conversation focuses on the first-time homebuyer experience and what you should expect and consider BEFORE shopping for a new home; including the multiple financial and educational resources available to make home buying, even in a challenging area like Silicon Valley, possible. If you are considering buying or refinancing a home, don’t miss this episode.


Episode 3- How Financial Planning Helps You Make Big Decisions

In this episode we explore how financial planning can help individuals and families with big decisions including: buying a home, paying off student loans, and preparing for retirement.  Using financial planning software we share how we can create multiple scenarios and simulate a financial roadmap, including the potential bumps in the road.


Episode 4- Navigating Real Estate in the Bay Area

In the second episode of our Financial Professional Education Series, Jeni Nunn, Realtor at Coldwell Banker joins us to share how she helps clients buy or sell their home. Our conversation focuses on the first-time homebuyer experience, multi-generational solutions, and the creative approaches to buying in the Bay Area


Episode 5- Building An Investment Portfolio

In Episode 3, “How Financial Planning Helps You Make Big Decisions” we discussed the planning process and the steps we take to develop a financial plan. Today, we continue with the next stage in the process and explore HOW we go about selecting the specific investments used to execute the plan.  As part of the conversation, we cover the importance of risk tolerance, diversification, re-balancing, and why it’s best to work with an advisor to develop your strategy and identify the appropriate investments.


Episode 6- Working with a CPA on Tax Planning Strategies

We continue our Professional Education Series with Lisa Silva, CPA and owner of TaxPros in California.  With over 23 years of public accounting experience, Lisa has a deep focus on income tax planning and compliance for individuals and small businesses. In our conversation we talk about tax planning, working with Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), how to prepare for an audit, and how she stays abreast of tax law changes.


Episode 7- Hard Conversations with Aging Parents

Being part of the Sandwich Generation is not easy, especially if you are caring for aging parents and raising kids at the same time. In today’s podcast we discuss how to approach the hard family conversation around dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. As part of our conversation we share early warning signs to look for, the types of questions to ask, and how to bring in your trusted advisors to help with next steps. As families gather to celebrate the holiday season, we think starting the conversation around these sensitive subjects will help ensure that your parent’s wishes are carried out when the time comes.


Episode 8- Protecting Your Wishes

In our final podcast of the Professional Education Series, Barbara Pretlove, Estate Planning Attorney at Pretlove Law joins us to talk about why it’s so important to establish your estate plan and legal documents. As part of the discussion, we explore how wills, trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives can ensure your wishes are carried out while alive, especially if suffering from dementia or medical conditions, and after you pass away.


Episode 9- End of the Year, End of a Decade

In the final podcast of our second season, we talk about money moves you should consider before the end of the year and introduce listeners to Ava Silva, our new intern. In addition, we expand on the value of charitable giving and the local and global organizations we support at TechGirl Financial.  As we close the second season, we’d like to thank all our listeners, guests and partners for their support and look forward to coming back in 2020 with season 3.
